Synopsis
:
This study aims to analyze the Dissociative Identity Disorder in the character Penny
Francone in D.J Palmer The Perfect Daughter. The objective of this study is to
describe the symptoms of dissociative identity disorder of Penny Francone and to
find the cause and effect in Penny Francone DID. The theory explains that there are
four symptoms of DID, loss of memories of the past, awareness of identity,
immediate sensations, and control of bodily movements, and for the cause is the
Trauma in DID patient, and the last is the three effects are behavior, mood, and
Psychological. The research methods is qualitative method. Qualitative research is
research about information such as behavior, beliefs, opinions, emotions, and
relationships between individuals. The data are taken from The Perfect Daughter
that is written by D.J Palmer. The results show that through the character, the novel
discusses about a character who has a Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). Penny
Francone and her alters named Ruby, Eve, Chloe, and the hidden alter Isabella Boyd
have their own thoughts and personality. First, the four symptoms explain the loss
of memories of the past, awareness of identity, immediate sensations, and control
of the bodily movements experienced by Penny and her alters. Second, the cause of
DID found is trauma of the event and childhood experienced by Isabella Boyd and
Penny. The last, the behavior, mood and psychological effect experiences by Penny
and her alter. The findings in this study is Penny Francone’s DID underscores the
interconnectedness between symptoms, cause, and effects within the context of her
experiences.
