Synopsis
:
"They Both Die at the End" is a science fiction novel written by Adam Silvera. The
novel tells the story of two teenagers, Mateo and Rufus, who receive a phone call from
Death-Cast, a company that informs someone that they will die within the next 24 hours.
Mateo Torrez is the main character in the novel. He is a teenage boy who tends to be
closed off and has social issues. He lives within his "comfort zone" and is reluctant to
venture out. However, after receiving the call from Death-Cast, he decides to go on a
journey with Rufus and explore the city before eventually dying. He has great
programming skills and often uses technology to avoid his social anxiety. The novel
explores themes of friendship, love, and death. Along their journey, Mateo and Rufus
meet various people who are also struggling with their own impending deaths. They strive
to overcome their fears and loneliness, and to find meaning in this short life. Overall,
"They Both Die at the End" is an engaging and emotional novel, with complex and well-
portrayed main characters, including Mateo Torrez.
