Synopsis
:
This study discusses the analisys of Jean Baptiste desire in Patrick Suskind‘s
Perfume: The Story of Murderer using Theory of Jacques Lacan theory of
desire.This research aims to find out how desire is reflected through the main
character Jean Baptiste. This research applies descriptive qualitative method due to
that fact the data is discriptive and the data analysis is presented disciptively. In
addition, psychological approach is applied in this study because the study deals
with the psychological aspects of the character In particular, Lacan's theory of desire
is usedto examine how desire works in novels, the subject used is the main character
himself. The researcher try to find The reflection of Desire in the novel and show
what the effect of desire it self unsing Jacques Lacan theory of desire The analysis
shows that Desire is not only about what the subject wants, but many aspects
influence the formation of a desire using Lacan's theoretical method. The
representation of desire in Grenouille extends beyond conscious control, deeply
rooted in his psychological condition.
