Synopsis

 :  This study is entitled “The Meaning of Charlie Davis's Existence in KathleenGlasgow’s Girl in Pieces”. The objectives of this study are to explaintheexistence and to determine the factors that contribute to the existence of CharlieDavis. In this research, the writer uses Jean-Paul Sartre's theory to findthemeaning of existence that consists of the novel. This study uses a descriptivequalitative method by using a philosophical approach. The results showthat seeking connection and love, overcoming trauma and self-discovery, and hope for the future is a struggle in search of existence and several factors support theexistence of the main character, namely supportive relationships, a therapeuticenvironment, personal resilience and creativity, moments of kindness andcompassion. From the results of this research, the findings showthat Charlie'sexperience underscores the importance of making conscious choices and takingresponsibility for his actions to shape his identity and find a purpose inlife. Charlie's journey is marked by a transition from merely surviving to becomingactive in seeking a fulfilling and meaningful life. So positive activities and a goodenvironment can provide therapeutic benefits for Charlie and can serve as a wayfor Charlie to gain control over his life and build resilience
