APOLOGY STRATEGIES USED BY THE CHARACTERS IN GINNYAND GEORGIA MOVIE SERIES (2021)

Synopsis	:	This study investigates the apology strategies used by characters in the Ginny and Georgia movie series (2021) using the theory of apology strategies from (Trosborg, 1995). The research aims to identify the types of apology strategies employed and determine the most frequently used strategies in the series. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the study analyzes the utterances only from the first season, categorizing each instance of apology according to Trosborg's (1995) theory, which includes Indirect Apologies, Direct Apologies, Remedial Support, and Strategic Disarmers. The findings reveal 74 instances of apology strategies, with Direct Apologies: Expression of Regret being the most dominant type, occurring 34 times. This prevalence highlights the characters' inclination toward explicit expressions of regret to address and repair interpersonal conflicts. Other strategies include Strategic Disarmers (18), Indirect Apologies: Acknowledgment of Responsibility (8), and Indirect Apologies: Explanation or Account (6). Remedial Support and Direct Apologies: Request for Forgiveness appear less frequently. The findings contribute to the development of pragmatic studies, particularly in understanding the role of apology strategies in maintaining social harmony.
