This study discusses the racism reflected in Morisseau’s Pipeline. The discussion
focuses on the types of racism and the cause and effect of racism. The analysis is
based on theory of racism that includes types of racism i.e. interpersonal racism,
institutional racism, structural racism, internalized racism ; how racism manifest
in everyday life, causes of racism and effects of racism. This research is designed
with qualitative research that applies sociological approach. The result of analysis
shows that the four types of racism a found in the story. The interpersonal racism
occurs in the form of discrimination and stereotypes. The institutional racism is
evident in an unfair and unequal education system, where black students are often
seen as less capable or problematic and placed in less supportive programs. The
structural racism is reflected in unequal access, opportunities, and resources to
education for black students. The internalized racism is evidence in the internal
conflict and feelings of inferiority experienced by the characters due to the skin
colour. In addition, the causes of racism include family instability, a harsh school
environment, and external factors. Furthermore, the play highlights the negative
impact of racism on everyday life through the characters' experiences and
relationships in a predominantly black urban environment.
